What is ISPM15 and Who Needs to Comply?

ISPM15 is the international standard that regulates wood packaging material in international trade. If you export goods on wooden pallets, compliance is almost certainly required.

What ISPM15 Requires

Wood packaging over 6mm thick must be heat-treated to a core temperature of 56°C for at least 30 minutes, then marked with the official IPPC compliance stamp. This applies to pallets, crates, dunnage and reels.

Who Needs to Comply?

Any business exporting goods on wooden packaging to countries that have adopted ISPM15 — which includes the vast majority of trading nations worldwide. Non-compliance can result in goods being refused entry, destroyed or returned at your cost.

Exempt Materials

Plastic pallets, paper, cardboard and plywood (under 6mm) are exempt from ISPM15 requirements. This is one reason plastic pallets are popular for export.

IPPC Stamp and Certificate

Pallet Sales UK supplies heat-treated pallets with IPPC stamp. Certificates are not always required but available on request for customs documentation.
